RAMALLAH, May 18, 2011 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday that he is ready to resume negotiations with Israel If the latter meets its obligations stated in the road map.
Abbas met in Ramallah with a US delegation that included Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem Daniel Rubenstein.
He discussed with them issues concerning the peace process and the Palestinian reconciliation agreement.
Abbas said that the reason the peace process has been stalled was due to Israeli refusal to stop settlement activities or to accept terms of references for the peace process.
He briefed the delegation on the reconciliation agreement signed recently in Cairo as well as efforts for forming a government of technocrats.
He said that this government will follow the PLO`s political platform, stressing that the Palestinians are committed to the peace process.
