Abu Rudeineh: Netanyahu’s Pre-Conditions Unacceptable

RAMALLAH, May 16, 2011 (WAFA) - Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements at the Israeli parliament were “unacceptable pre-conditions, which we reject.”

He said that “a peace settlement means that East Jerusalem will be the capital of the State of Palestine,” stressing that “all final status issues should be resolved at the negotiating table and according to international resolutions and the road map.”

Netanyahu addressed the Israeli Knesset Monday night and said that the Palestinians should accept the fact that a united Jerusalem will remain as the permanent capital of Israel. He also said the Palestinians should recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish people and accept a solution to the refugees issue outside Israel.

He also said that any future Palestinian state will be demilitarized and that there should be a permanent Israeli army force in the Jordan Valley.

Abu Rudeineh said these statements “show once again that Israel is not interested in peace.”

He said that while Israel continues to defy the will of the international community, these statements will not stop the Palestinian people from asking for their full rights, including going to the United Nations in September to ask for recognition of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
