Consumer Price Index Down in April

 

RAMALLAH, May 12, 2011 (WAFA) - The overall consumer price index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory with its 2004 base year (2004=100) reached 131.98 in April, said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

 

The CPI decreased by 0.03% compared with March and increased by 3.51% compared with April 2010.

 

The decrease in the CPI for April is traced to changes in the prices of medical care, which went down by 0.59%, food and soft drinks by 0.13%, and furniture and household goods by 0.22%. Prices of restaurants, cafes and hotels, however, increased by 1.26%, textiles, clothing and footwear up by 1.19%, miscellaneous goods and services by 0.51% and transportation by 0.26%.

 

Change in the CPI in the Gaza Strip was down by 0.56% and in Jerusalem by 0.01%. In the West Bank it went up by 0.17%.
