RAMALLAH, May 10, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Near East Consulting (NEC) said in a public opinion poll published Tuesday that a majority of 85% of the Palestinians believe that Al-Qaeda will retaliate following the killing of its leader Osama Bin Laden.
In addition, 89% think that level of terrorism in the world will not decrease as a result of Bin Laden’s elimination.
Answering a question about whether Bin laden was killed or still alive, 56% of the respondents believe that he was killed, while 44% said he is still alive. In addition, 46% of Palestinians would not oppose burying Bin Laden in Palestine if this idea was ever brought up.
With regard to the fate of Al-Qaeda, 42% of the respondents think that Al-Qaeda will become stronger after the death of Bin laden, while 22% believe it will become weaker, and 36% said its strength will remain the same.
On a local issue, 81% of the Palestinians believe that national reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas will succeed, while 19% feel it will fail.
The survey was conducted in the first week of May on a random sample of 633 adult Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, including East Jerusalem. The margin of error is +/-3.8% and the confidence level is 95%.
