Provocative Jewish Celebrations in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, May 10, 2011 ( WAFA ) – Extremist Jewish groups and settlers organized provocative celebrations Tuesday night in Jerusalem’s old city and its surroundings, to celebrate the establishing of the Israeli state in the aftermath of the Palestinian Nakba.

Jewish settlers, with the protection of heavy military forces, set off fireworks and placed loudspeakers to broadcast loud music, especially in settlement outposts in Jerusalem's old city, according to local sources.

Palestinian residents reported being unable to sleep due to the loud celebrations which included racist insulting chants and swearing against Palestinians and Arabs.

Meanwhile, Jewish extremist groups Tuesday morning organized dancing rounds in the courtyard of Damascus Gate, almost clashing with Palestinians.

Israeli police and military forces intervened, securing the withdrawal of the extremists toward the courtyard of the Western Wall to resume their celebrations and to participate in a Jewish march. Previous such marches have involved threats to raid Al-Aqsa Mosque and to attack Palestinians and their belongings.

Provocative celebrations under the watch of Israeli police and military forces also took place in the neighborhoods of Silwan, a town southeast of Jerusalem's old city, despite last night’s violent clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces.
