RAMALLAH, May 9, 2011 (WAFA) – Amin Maqbool, Fatah movement revolutionary council member Monday said that the council will discuss in its upcoming meeting gaining recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and implementing the reconciliation agreement.
Maqbool told WAFA that the meeting is an important step because “we are about to execute the terms of reconciliation agreement and recognition of a Palestinian state.”
President Mahmoud Abbas will discuss in his opening speech the political situation, especially after the reconciliation, and the upcoming government in specific; he will present a report regarding the current Palestinian situation.
Maqbool said that the central committee will not discuss forming an independent government in the revolutionary council meeting.
He insisted that the upcoming elections are part of recognizing a Palestinian state that must be achieved as soon as possible.
Abbas said that it is necessary to form mechanisms and strategies to follow up on presidential, legislative, and local elections.
The central committee decided to form a steering committee headed by Azzam al-Ahmad to follow up on issues related to the forming of a government agreed upon by all the Palestinian factions.
