Abbas: Future Government Will Follow PLO Policies

CAIRO, May 4, 2011 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas said in a meeting with Egyptian journalists on Tuesday that the reconciliation is a significant accomplishment on the national scale, and the transitional government will work according to PLO policies.

He said that he is determined to go to the United Nations in September for the recognition of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Concerning the peace talks, Abbas said: “I am willing to go back to negotiations immediately on clear terms of reference to the peace process after Israel stops settlement construction.”

He praised the Palestinian factions for signing the reconciliation agreement and taking part in the talks, saying “the sense of responsibility pushes the opposing parties and the government towards working together.”

Abbas also spoke of Rafah’s 2005 movement and access agreement saying that “we wish to make the lives of Gazans easier and allow them to move freely into Egypt, but to make sure that Egypt will not bear the burden of Gaza alone.” He added that “the presidential guards will be deployed at the borders, in accordance with the agreement we signed in 2005.”

He said that following the celebrations, they will efforts to form the government of technocrats.
