RAMALLAH, May 3, 2011 (WAFA)- The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem held a reception in Ramallah on Tuesday to celebrate World Press Freedom Day.

Public Affairs Officer, Frank J. Finver, addressed the audience of journalists, who had come from different cities of the West Bank to attend the reception.

He called on the journalists to “remember those who fell while doing their duty.” He said “a free press is the foundation of a strong society, a dependable government and responsible economic growth.”

Finver said that “ we are aware of the perils of your profession, and we acknowledge your efforts to promote a free press in the local communities, the Palestinian Territory and around the world.”
