Supreme Court Dismisses Government Suit After Health Employees Return to Work

RAMALLAH, April 28, 2011 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Supreme Court Thursday dismissed a government lawsuit ordering striking public health employees to return to work after the workers had suspended their strike.

Saher Rifai, a lawyer for the union, said the court made that decision after the employees had announced that they will end their strike on Thursday.

The Government Information Center said that the court dismissed the case because the employees had ended their strike.

The Palestinian government said Monday that it will ask the Supreme Court to order the health employees to end their strike and return to work in the context of concern for the public interest affected by the strike and to reduce its impact on providing essential health services without being unfair to the rights of the employees.

The government was accused of not implementing its promises to the health sector employees more than 10 months ago.

The employees’ demands are focused on increasing wages by adjusting wages to the high cost of living in the West Bank.
