Explosion in Egypt Gas Terminal

SINAI, April 27, 2011 (WAFA) – An unknown armed gang Wednesday caused an explosion in the natural gas terminal that supplies both Israel and Jordan with gas and is located west of al-Arish city in Sinai.

The explosives were planted in the terminal which resulted in a massive explosion and the shutdown of the the country’s gas export pipelines, according to local sources.

The terminal was previously exposed to an unsuccessful explosion attempt after the uprising which ousted President Hosni Mubark in Egypt. The attempt led to gas exports to Israel and Jordan being stopped for over a month.

Israel receives 40% of its natural gas needs from Egypt, according to the peace agreement between the two countries.
