Monetary Authority on Verge of Becoming Central-Bank, says Governor

NABLUS, APRIL 26, 2011 (WAFA) – Jihad al-Wazir, governor of the Palestinian Monetary Authority (PMA), said that the PMA is getting ready to announce the establishment of a Palestinian central bank which will have the power to issue a Palestinian currency.

Wazir was speaking in Nablus on Monday on the importance of the economic sector in establishing a future well-functioning Palestinian state. He talked about the accomplishments of the PMA including its role in improving the financial market infrastructure.

 He said the PMA had been working for three years on a strategic development plan to turn the PMA to an independent central back using advanced technology.
