RAMALLAH, April 24, 2011 (WAFA) - Fatah movement warned Sunday against settlers’ attempts to commit violence against Palestinians in the West Bank similar to the Ibrahimi mosque massacre in Hebron in the 1994 in order to prevent possible international recognition of a Palestinian state by September.
Fatah spokesman, Osama Qawasmi, said in a statement that settlers’ presence in the occupied territories is illegal and a violation of international law and human rights because the settlers implement a policy of discrimination.
He said that the refusal of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to abide by international resolutions and agreements as well as its persistence in building settlements, seizing lands, Judaizing East Jerusalem and rejecting the peace option will aggravate the situation.
He stressed that Fatah fully supports President Mahmoud Abbas’ commitment to peace based on international law and resolutions.
He called on the international community to put an end to settlers’ systematic attacks on Palestinian land as well as on Islamic and Christian holy sites.
