NABLUS, April 24, 2011(WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Monday honored the ‘Medal of Jerusalem’ to the martyrs, Juliano Mer-Khamis and Vittorio Arrigoni, in the condolence tent set up by Fatah movement in Ramallah city.
Abbas said, “Crediting both martyrs the honoring ‘Medal of Jerusalem’, is the least expression of gratitude for their efforts in serving the Palestinian cause”.
He added that “the assassination of the two activists does not reflect the traditions, habits and morals of the Palestinian people and all humans”.
The condolence tent was set up near the late president Yasser Arafat’s tomb, in presence of a large number of representatives of Palestinian factions, members of the Legislative Council, representatives of the civil society, Palestinian officials and citizens.
Juliano Mer-Khamis , a pro-Palestinian political activist, was born in Nazareth to a peace activist Jewish mother and a Palestinian father who was a senior leader of the Israeli Communist party. Mer-Khamis was assassinated by a masked gunman in Jenin city in the West Bank in April 4, 2011.
Ten days later, the body of the Italian Pro-Palestinian activist, Vittorio Arrigoni, 36, was found inside a house in Gaza after he was kidnapped by Muslim extremists.
