Jericho Names Street after Murdered Italian Activist, Arrigoni

JERICHO, April 23, 2011 (WAFA) – Jericho municipality Saturday named a street in city after murdered Italian activist Vittorio Arrigoni, according to a press release.

Jericho mayor, Hasan Saleh, said that Jericho wanted to express it gratitude for Arrigoni’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and the personal relationship between the activist and the city.

“This is the least we can do in appreciation for Arrigoni’s efforts to help the Palestinian people,” he said.

Saleh condemned Arrigoni’s assassination, stressing that the murder does not reflect Palestinian moral values. He praised all international solidarity efforts, especially the Italian contribution, in supporting the Palestinian cause.

Arrigoni was kidnapped by Muslim extremists in Gaza on April 13 in order to exchange him for imprisoned leaders of the group. His body was found the next day in an abandoned house in Gaza.
