Al-Araj: Israel Deliberately Obstructs Efforts to Rescue Peace Process

 RAMALLAH, April 20, 2011 (WAFA) - Hussein al-araj , head of the Palestinian presidential secretary Wednesday said during a meeting  with Victor Bogado, president of Paraguay's lower house of the Congress, in Ramallah, that Israel deliberately obstructs the international efforts to save the peace process by refusing to halt settlement activities and recognize the peace references.

Al-araj  thanked the Republic of Paraguay government and people for their recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, their political and diplomatic support to the Palestinian cause.

He pointed out to the political and humanitarian importance of  recognizing the Palestinian state by Paraguay and other Latin American countries; due to the impact they have on the international community.

Al-araj explained in details the latest developments in the Palestinian Territory to the visiting leader and the PA’s efforts to revive the peace process and build the Palestinian institutions to prepare for  the  declaration of  an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, next September.

He praised the bilateral relations between Palestine and Paraguay, confirming the determination of the Palestinian leadership to develop these friendly relations.

Later on, Azzam Al-Ahmad, head of  Fateh's parliamentary faction in the Palestinian Legislative Council met with Bogado and told him that Palestinian people insists on declaring the state next September.  

 Al-ahmad pointed out that 130 countries recognized the Palestinian state and held Israel responsible for the failure of the negotiations due to the obstacles they put in the way of the peace process; by continuing settlement activities and aggression on the Palestinian people and land, calling on the international community to stop Israel from such brutal measures.

He asserted to the visiting leader the readiness of  the Palestinian institutions to declare the independent Palestinian state.

Member of Legislative Council, Hanan Ashrawi, also met with Paraguayan parliamentary delegation in the Legislative Council’s headquarters, in Ramallah, and criticized the extremist Israeli Government’s policy, explaining that  it tries to renounce the peace process and  to change facts on ground through its settlements policy.

She said that Israel is seizing Palestinian land, demolishing houses, and expanding settlements, aiming to Judaize Jerusalem, and to fragment Palestinian land into isolated cantons in order to expel Palestinian residents. 

On his part, Bogado expressed the Paraguayan support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and with Jerusalem as its capital.

the Paraguayan delegation will tour in Palestine in the next four days to check on the Palestinian situation.
