Jenin Holds Sit-in to Protest Filmmaker’s Murder

JENIN, April 5, 2011 (WAFA) - The Freedom Theater in Jenin Tuesday organized a sit-in to commemorate and  condemn the murder of director and actor Juliano Mer-Khamis. The theater declared a three-day mourning period and raised black flags.

The participants raised pictures of Juliano, as well as banners and slogans which condemned the crime.

In a press conference, Zakariya Zubeidi, a local Fatah leader and friend of Khamis, denounced the crime.

He said Khamis had  devoted his life to the resistance through theater and art in order to expose the Israeli policy and aggression that targets the Palestinians. He also demanded maximum penalty for the perpetrator.

Representatives of public and  non-governmental institutions as well as Ministry of Culture officials and camp residents in addition to Palestinians from inside the ‘green line’ participated in the sit-in.
