Israeli Forces Raid Freedom Theater in Jenin

JENIN, April 5, 2011 (WAFA) - Israeli soldiers  raided the city of Jenin on Tuesday and broke into Freedom Theater in Jenin’s refugee camp, according to Palestinian security sources.

They  told WAFA the soldiers searched the theater and photographed it and questioned a Palestinian resident living next to the theater.

The raid came after the killing of actor, director and founder of the theater, Juliano Mer-Khamis, on Monday. Palestinian police arrested some suspects; most of them were later released except for one who remains in custody, according to security sources.

Israeli soldiers also set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the town of Ya’abad in the Jenin area, stopped vehicles and checked identification papers of the drivers and passengers. More troops have been deployed in the Jenin area, said the Palestinian security sources.
