JERUSALEM, April 3, 2011 (WAFA)- The Planning and Building Committee in Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem, Sunday will discuss, a plan for constructing 1900 new settlements’ housing units in ‘Gilo’ Settlement, according to an Israeli radio.
According to the plan, these housing units will be established on the southern slopes between Crimasan Catholic convent, near Bethlehem and ‘Har Gilo’ settlement, which is located between the Palestinian villages of Al Walaja and Beit Jala, in Bethlahem.
Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, Kobi Kahlon, said that this plan has been submitted to the committee last January, but the decision has been delayed as the committee called for amendments.
Har Gilo settlement is located about five kilometers south of Jerusalem, and two kilometers west of Bethlehem, in the West Bank. It was established after the Six-Day War in June 1967 and is considered part of ‘Gush Etzion’ settlement.
According to ‘Peace Now’, Har Gilo breaks the territorial contiguity of the Palestinian state.
