Committee Approves Settlement Expansion in Jerusalem Area

JERUSALEM, March 1, 2011 (WAFA) - Lawyer Qais Nasser said Wednesday in a press release  that the Building and Planning Committee in Jerusalem approved last week an expansion plan in Har Homa settlement east of the city.

The expansion plan includes building housing units, shops, synagogues, schools and a kindergarten.

Nasser clarified that the blueprint is on an area of 250 donums and will include 50 more housing units and 8 synagogues, an elementary and secondary school, a swimming pool, a public center and 5 kindergartens in addition to an area of 9000 square meters for building shops.

He added that the Israeli Housing Ministry submitted the plan to the Jerusalem municipality which studied the outline on 21st February.

The Committee asked the District Planning Committee of Jerusalem to approve the plan, saying that it was prepared in coordination with the municipality.

Nasser added that the Israeli Housing Ministry sold more than 90 housing units in Jerusalem and it announced that Israeli companies recently won tenders to build 370 housing units in Navi Yacoub, Ramot and Modi’in settlements located in Jerusalem.
