RAMALLAH, March 2, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian embassy in Jordan said Wednesday that 26 Palestinian students who have arrived in Amman coming from Libya are on their way to the West Bank.
The embassy said the students arrived safely in Jordan on Tuesday, where they spent the night before heading Wednesday morning to al-Karameh crossing (Allenby) on the River Jordan to cross into the West Bank.
There were 104 students from the West Bank and Gaza Strip studying in Libyan universities and some of them were studying the military academy.
The Palestinian Authority has decided to get all the Palestinian students out of Libya following the outbreak of violence in the north African country.
In addition, it asked Israel to allow thousands of the Palestinian community working and living in Libya to return to the West Bank on humanitarian grounds. Israel said it will allow only 300 to come. The Palestinian embassy in Libya has asked the Palestinian community, which number over 25,000, to apply for a return to the West Bank if they want.
At least one Palestinian was killed so far in the fighting taking place in the Libya capital, Tripoli, between government troops and the general public. The Palestinian came originally from Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip but has been living in Libya with his family for decades
