PCBS: Hotel Occupancy Up in Fourth Quarter 2010

RAMALLAH, March 2, 2011 (WAFA) – Hotel occupancy was up in fourth quarter 2010 with a 24% rise in number of guests occupying hotel rooms, said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

It said room occupancy reached 41% in the fourth quarter 2010, up by 17% when compared to the third quarter of the same year and 12.5% when compared to the same quarter a year earlier.

Number of guests occupying these rooms increased by 24%, it said.

Total number of guests staying in Palestinian hotels was 171,000, of whom 36% were from European Union countries, 16.5% from European countries not members in the union, and 13% from the United States and Canada.

Most of the hotels are concentrated in East Jerusalem (29 hotels with 1452 rooms and 3165 beds) and Ramallah (25 hotels with 935 rooms and 2174 rooms). Bethlehem and the south of the West Bank have 25 hotels with 1873 rooms having 4007 beds. The north of the West Bank has seven hotels, with 166 rooms and 364 beds.

The Gaza Strip has eight hotels with 293 rooms and 459 beds, according to the PCBS statistics.
