RAMALLAH, March 1, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestinian Prime Minister-Designate Salam Fayyad Tuesday called on the international community to intervene to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the fulfillment of the Palestinian goals to reach statehood by September.

He stressed during two separate meetings with Romanian Foreign Minister Theodor Baconschi and Japan’s envoy to the Middle East Yutaka Imura on the necessity of activating the European role in the political process.

He said the European Union should play a political role within the quartet because the international community should bear fully responsibility to resolving the Middle East conflict.

He called for an immediate intervention to end the Israeli occupation in order to enable the Palestinians to determine their future and establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Fayyad briefed them on the latest political developments in the Palestinian occupied territories and the risks that threaten the future of the peace process due to the Israeli violations.

He also told them about the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to complete its program for building the state institutions in preparation for statehood.
