Israeli Municipality Crews Conduct Raids of Jerusalem Street Vendors

JERUSALEM, March 1, 2011 (WAFA) - Israeli municipality inspectors conducted Tuesday raids on Palestinian street vendors in East Jerusalem, said witnesses.

Israeli police and border guards accompanied the municipality inspectors and assaulted the vendors, including elderly women. Many vendors were detained and were taken to the Jaffa Gate police station. The inspectors also seized and destroyed the products the vendors were selling.

The raids were mainly focused around Damascus Gate, Sultan Suleiman street and Salah al-Din Street in central East Jerusalem in addition to streets inside the Old City of Jerusalem.
