PNCRoD Briefs Abbas on its Work

RAMALLAH, February 13, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestinian National Committee for the Register of Damage (PNCRoD) Sunday briefed President Mahmoud Abbas on its work in following up the process of registering the damage, and what has been accomplished so far.

The United Nations (UN) since its inception in late 2008 registered 14000 damage form in 69 locations affected by the Israeli construction of the Separation Wall  in the Palestinian Territory.

PNCRoD headed by Taysir Khaled, Member of the PLO Executive Committee also informed Abbas on the themes of work in general damage to official institutions and ministries and in public damage to Palestinian people which is an important issue and requires the consolidation of national efforts.

The Committee emphasized that it is thoroughly committed to the Presidential decree issued in establishing the National Committee, operates according to high professional standards and transparency and committed to the rights of Palestinians affected by the construction of the Separation Wall.

Abbas expressed his appreciation for the results achieved so far and his full support and cooperation with the implementation of the mandate of the Register in the months to come.

President issued the decree on July 3, 2007 which states the formation of Palestinian National Committee for the Register of Damage caused by the Israeli construction of the Separation Wall in the Palestinian Territory.

The Committee is formed of various Palestinian parties concerned of the damage of the separation wall and includes representatives from the President’s Office, the government and of the ministries concerned, as well as representatives of NGOs and Popular Committees against the Separation Wall.

The Government of Israel maintains its well known position of not cooperating with the UN Office of the Register and considering that any claims in relation to damage caused by the construction of the wall should be addressed through the existing Israeli mechanism.
