RAMALLAH, April 30, 2010 (WAFA)- Dozens suffered from teargas inhalation during the weekly protests in the West Bank village of Bil’in west of Ramaallah, which was joined by international and Israeli activists.
Majdi Bannorah and Nadir Abu Bathre’a, both members of an Al Jazeera crew, were arrested. An Irish journalist, Tom, and an international activist were also arrested.
On the occasion of International Worker’s Rights Day, the protest was joined by the General Union of Palestinian Labor Force, Labor Minister Dr. Ahmad Majdalani, , Secretary General of the Palestinian Arab Front Jameel Shahadah.
Protesters carried Palestinian flags and posters calling for an end to the occupation, an end to the siege on Gaza and the release of all Palestinian prisoners.
The two Al Jazeera staff members were arrested before the crowd reached the gate and it was clear that the army was targeting journalists and reporters.
The protest managed to reach the gate, but the army was already situated behind cement blocks and prevented protesters from crossing the gate by using teargas canisters and rubber bullets.
The protest was covered by Head of the ABC TV channel in Australia Ben Knight, and the Palestinian film director, Richard Zinanere.
