President Abbas Receives New US Consul General

RAMALLAH, September 8, 2009 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas received  Tuesday in the Presidency HQ in the West Bank city of Ramallah the new US  Consul General in Jerusalem Mr. Daniel Rubinstein.

They tackled the incessant American efforts to revive the peace process in the Middle East.

President Abbas raised the question of the continued Israeli settlement activities, stressing on the importance of the U.S. efforts to stop the Israeli breaches to the peace process as well to the international  Road Map.

Earlier, The U.S. Consulate General said that Mr. Daniel Rubinstein began his tour as U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem on September 6, 2009. He previously served as Chief of the Civilian Observer Unit in the Multinational Force and Observers in Sinai, Egypt.

Mr. Rubinstein served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan from 2005 to 2008. Previously, he served as Director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs in the Department of State from 2004 to 2005.

He has also served in a number of other positions, including overseas tours of duty in Brasilia, Damascus, Tunis, Luanda, and Tel Aviv, as well as service with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad.

Mr. Rubinstein is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and speaks Arabic, Hebrew and Portuguese. He is married and has two children.
