New York Mayor Appointed Woman of Palestinian Origin as Head of Immigrant Affairs

NEW YORK, August 14, 2009 (WAFA)- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has appointed Fatima Shama of Palestinian origin as head of the city's immigrant affairs office.

She will succeed Guillermo Linares who left recently and is now working for Bloomberg's re-election campaign.

Shama was born in the Bronx to immigrant parents. Her mother is Brazilian and her late father was Palestinian from from the West Bank village of Deir Dibwan near Ramallah .
