RAMALLAH, August 13, 2009 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas, said, today that, the end of Fateh’s sixth general conference is a “new launch toward freedom and independence.”

In a press conference held, Thursday, the President added that Fateh affirms that its children are continuing late President Yasser Arafat’s path towards freedom and independence.

He affirmed Fateh’s commitment to all conventions, obligations, international and Arab legitimacy decisions.

The president confirmed that these basics are the only ones that guarantee a permanent solution to the struggle, without which “our region and the whole world will not enjoy peace, stability and security.”

President Abbas asserted that any negotiations must include all parties’, namely Israel’s, respect to all obligations; halt of colonization, in Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and all the permanent status issues.

He continued on saying that Fateh confirms that freedom of prisoners and detainees is on its priorities list; the end of this process must not be waited for to end the suffering of all these people.

He stressed Fateh’s commitment to ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state and rejects “a state with temporary borders.”

The president also stated that, “Egypt is for Egyptians, Syria is for Syrians, Lebanon is for Lebanese, and Jordan is for Jordanians. Yet, Palestine is for the Palestinian People; we have no other homeland, our roots are deep into this land.”

“From the heart of holy Bethlehem; the city of nativity; the city of peace we have announced that our hands are stretched out to just peace. We call on Israel to embrace this peace,” the President insisted.

“We stress President Barack Obamas’ efforts exerted towards establishing an independent Palestinian state and halting colonization activities,” he said, affirming that Jerusalem is the key to peace.
