Presidents Abbas, Gul Inaugurate Palestinian Embassy in Ankara

ANKARA, July 18, 2009 (WAFA)- Presidents Mahmoud Abbas and Abdullah Gul inaugurated Friday the new building of the Palestinian Embassy in Ankara.

At inauguration ceremony, Turkish president says he 'hopes someday to open embassy in Palestine, in east Jerusalem'.

The new embassy's building was constructed with the assistance of the Turkish government, which Abbas called a “symbol of friendship and brotherhood” between the Palestine and Turkey.

Abbas told Turkish officials that the most important issue was to construct Palestine's own governmental buildings and create business, education and healthcare opportunities for Palestinian people in their own territory.

Turkish officials decided to build a university hospital, a new industry zone in Palestine and a congress center in Ramallah. Turkey will also help set up technologic infrastructure for Palestinian state television, diplomats said.

Abbas reiterated his demand that Israel follow the guidelines of the Road Map that calls for Israel to halt all colonial activity.
