The Spokesman of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussam Zaki, stated that Egypt will host the international conference for the reconstruction of Gaza on March 2, 2009 in Cairo.
He specified that the Ministry has begun intensive diplomatic contacts since the Egyptian President Husni Mubarak announced Egypt's intention to call for an international conference for donor countries and organizations aimed at gathering the financial resources necessary to reconstruct what the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has destroyed.
The conference, entitled 'Cairo International Conference to support the Palestinian Economy for the Reconstruction of Gaza', will be chaired by Egypt and organized with coordination between the Egyptian government and the Palestinian National Authority. The conference will focus on the resources needed for reconstruction, and the means to gather the necessary financial resources. It will, furthermore, discuss the other issues of providing the urgent humanitarian needs to the Strip. It may also discuss a number of political issues, that may affect, directly or indirectly, the reconstruction efforts and means to implement them.
Zaki pointed that Cairo will receive many delegations from the Palestinian Authority, Europe, the UN and other parties concerned, to carry on consultations concerning the organizational and objective preparations for the conference to guarantee that it will launch a serious and coordinated process for Gaza's reconstruction, cover all the demands of the Palestinian National Authority and provide all the needs of the Palestinian people in the Strip.
