President Abbas Meets with Mitchell

RAMALLAH, January 29, 2009 (WAFA)- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met, Thursday, with The American Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell, in the Palestinian Presidency headquarters in Ramallah.

 

In a joint press conference with Mr. Mitchell, Dr. Saeb Ereikat, Chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) said, that President Abbas suggested several important issues on Mitchell; the most important of which was the necessity to help us mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.

 

He also pointed that the President reassured Mitchell of his eagerness to keep the national interests and to form a national unity movement.

 

He added, 'the president explained to Mitchell the Anapolis path, and what has been reached through it, especially when it comes to colonizer activities, and the policy of creating facts on the ground.'

 

He finally said, 'the president has affirmed the Palestinian National Authority's readiness to act according to the international legitimacy laws, the Arab peace initiative, the Road Map, and the solution of the refugees' issue based on UN resolution 194.
