President Abbas: Israel Does Not Want Peace

RAMALLAH, January 28, 2009 (WAFA)- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed, Tuesday, that, “we are now convinced, especially after Israel’s aggression on the Gaza Strip, that Israel does not want peace.”

In a press conference held in the Palestinian Presidency Headquarters in Ramallah, the President affirmed  that Israel only wants to waste time, and impose facts on the ground. It proved, by its barbaric aggression on the Palestinian people that it does not want peace or the unity of the Palestinian territory.

He wondered if the war that has killed 1500 Palestinians, wounded 5000, destroyed more than 20,000 houses, and displaced hundreds of thousands of the Palestinian people was “self-defense,” and if Israel faced a real aggression to make it launch this massive war. He confirmed that all that all the “absurd rockets” fired on Israel, which did not kill any humans, was only a pretext cited by Israel to destroy the Palestinian steadfastness.

The president added that the Palestinian people has defended its own dignity, and said “no” to the occupation. Despite  the tragedy they went through, Palestinians are only thinking of national unity, and believe that it is the Palestinian victory.

He finally said that, “our position on the peace process is clear; we want all the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, a just solution for the refugees’ issue, dismantling settlements, and we accept international presence in the Palestinian Territory, on condition that the Israeli army is not included in them.”
