President Abbas Receives Phone Call from Hillary Clinton

RAMALLAH, January 22, 2009 (WAFA)- The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received, Thursday evening, a phone call from the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

 

In the phone call, Clinton affirmed that the new American Administration will enhance the relations based on the support of the Palestinian Presidency and the Palestinian National Authority.

 

She also affirmed that the new American Administration is committed to the peace process in the Middle East, and that it is looking forward to working with President Abbas, to achieve peace in the region.

 

On his side, President Abbas felicitated Mrs. Clinton on her new position in the American Administration and assured her of his commitment to working with the American Administration in the peace process, to achieve the common goal of the international legitimacy and the Arab Initiative for peace adopted by the League of Arab States in 2002 and the Road Map.

 

The President also asserted the importance of humanitarian assistance flow to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian citizens in the disastered Gaza Strip.

 

President Abbas had received, Wednesday, a phone call from the new American President, Barack Obama, confirming that his Administration will be President Abbas' partner to build the Palestinian institutions, reconstruction and achieving peace.
