Ban: Israeli Government Must Accept UN Resolutions

CAIRO, January 13, 2009 (WAFA)- The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed, Monday, his sorrow for the death of a large number of Palestinian citizens due to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

In a joint press conference held Wednesday, with the Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Abu Al-Gheit,  Ban said that he intended to visit the Gaza Strip and see, firsthand, the situation there, but he couldn’t because of the security conditions there. he said that he would, however, visit the area in the future to discuss the situation with UN employees there.”

Ban added that the Israeli Government must accept the UN and Security Council Resolutions. He also commended the UNRWA employees in the Gaza Strip, for their work in such difficult conditions, to help people.

Ban confirmed that it is a UN priority to send  a team to assess the situation in the area, and to find out the needs of Gaza citizens.
