Mosque in Jaffa Desecrated, Islamic Movement Expresses Concern over Repercussions

JAFFA, December 21, 2008 (WAFA)- As Muslim worshippers arrived, Sunday morning, at Al-Bahr Mosque near Jaffa Port, they found anti-prophet Mohammad slogans on its doors, saying gMohammad is a Pigh and gDeath to Arabs.h Islamic movement leader expressed concern over the repercussions of such violations.

Islamic Movementfs northern branch leader, Sheikh Ahmad Abu Ajwa said that, the reasons behind the continuation of these violations are the ongoing incitement against Arabs and Muslims, holding the State of Israel responsible.

Representatives of the Islamic Movement in Jaffa appealed to Jaffa Police, to look into the incident and find offenders.

Sheikh Abu Ajwa told WAFA that the incident was 'a consequence of the continued incitement against Arabs and Muslims by Israeli senior politicians and Members of the Knesset.'

He added that the Israeli Occupation Authorities violation of Islamic and Christian cemeteries, and holy sites and the un-deterring punishments against the offenders encourage the repetition of such violations and send a message that mosques can be desecrated.

Abu Ajwa expressed his concern that such offenses, if left unpunished could evolve and turn into violent or armed aggressions, which lead to confrontations between Palestinian citizens and Israelis in the city.

Several years ago, a pig's head was thrown into the Hassan Bek Mosque's courtyard in Jaffa. One of the worshippers said that the words 'Prophet Muhammad' were written on the pig's head, which was wrapped in a Palestinian Kaffiyah. The provocation sparked a harsh wave of protests among the Palestinian citizens in Israel.

At the beginning of 2008, an unknown intruder climbed over the fence surrounding the Hassan Bek Mosque and vandalized the courtyard area, damaging some of the religious site's property.
