UNRWA to Provide Immediate Cash Assistance to 100,000 Poor Palestinians

GAZA, April 14, 2008, (WAFA)-United Nations Relief and Works Agency(UNRWA) decided on Monday to provide immediate cash assistance to 100,000 thousand poor Palestinians due to the deteriorating living conditions in the Gaza Strip.

UNRWA Media adviser and spokesman Adnan Abu Hasna said over phone call with the 'WAFA' that the amount to be provided by 'UNRWA' is ten million shekels only to the value of one hundred thousand person and will be paid one hundred shekels per person.

Abu Hasana explained that the situation in Gaza is deteriorating on a daily basis and every hour the situation is worse than it was.

He pointed out that the motive behind the cash assistance is a significant deterioration in the living conditions in the Gaza Strip and the wide collapse suffered by the Palestinian economy and the increasing rate of unemployment and lack of job opportunities, pointing out that the segments that will benefit from this aid are families that do not have any source of income at all.
