PLO Supports Results of Arab Summit and International Conference for Peace


RAMALLAH, April 4, 2007, (WAFA)- The PLO Executive Committee (EC) reiterated on Wednesday total support to the results of the last Arab Summit in Riyadh.

In its meeting, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, in Ramallah, the PLO asserted that the results of the Arab Summit is a practical support to the Palestinian people and their just cause.

It affirmed its support to the results, especially the Arab commitment to the Arab Initiative for Peace as a one package, and putting a mechanism to implement it.

The PLO asserted that the Arab Group should put a practical plan, including calling for international conference for peace, for implementing the Arab Initiative and the relevant international resolutions.

It added that the plan should include a supervision on serious Palestinian-Israeli negotiations aiming at establishing an independent Palestinian state side-by-side with Israel, assuring a just resolution of the cause of refugees and ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab and Palestinian territory in 1967, including Jerusalem.

The PLO said that such practical suggestion guarantee an international attitude backs the revive of the peace process and reveals the Israeli obstacles which prevent launching the peace process again.

It rejected the Israeli attitudes which call for contacts and normalization with Arabs as such false calls aim at not to begin real negotiations with the PLO.

The PLO stressed that the Israeli attitude aims at losing time for imposing new facts on the ground, including the division of the West Bank into Bantustans.

It affirmed on the necessity of the serious act for the release of Palestinian prisoners for the Israeli arrested soldier.

The PLO denounced the kidnapping of the BBC reporter, Alan Johnston, and called for his immediate release.
