IPI Calls for Releasing BBC Journalist Alan Johnston
VIENNA, April 04, 2007, (WAFA)-The International Press Institute (IPI), expressed its grave concern about the fate of the BBC journalist Alan Johnston and called for his release immediately.
In a press release, IPI said that Johnston has been the BBC correspondent in Gaza for three years - the only western broadcast journalist both living and working there.
"His work reporting fairly and accurately from Gaza has been widely praised," Johann P. Fritz, Director of IPI, said. "He has shed light on one of the world's most demanding stories - in keeping with the highest standards of the BBC."
The BBC still does not have any firm knowledge regarding Johnston's condition or his whereabouts. "The IPI applauds the fact that many Palestinians in Gaza have demanded his release but calls on anyone with influence to intensify their efforts to ensure that Alan Johnston is freed," Fritz added.
