Solana: Quartet's Next Meeting will be in Middle East
BERLIN, March 15, 2007 (WAFA) -- European Union's (EU) High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Chief Javier Solana said on Thursday that the next meeting for the Quartet Committee will be in the Middle East in mid April.
Solana's comments were made on the sidelines of a meeting between the EU and the Association of Southeast Asian (Asean) states in southern German city of Nuremberg.
Commenting on the announcement of a new Palestinian unity government, Solana said, "we are going to wait and see, fortunately we have to wait and see a little less time now." However, Solana pointed out that the Quartet members -- the UN, US, EU and Russia -- will discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, however several meetings will cover such issues prior to that meeting.
The Quartet upcoming meeting will take place in the Middle East, however the exact place of the meeting is not yet determined, Solana said.
EU leaders however pledged at a Brussels summit last week to work with a new Palestinian unity government as long as its programme takes into account the Quartet's demands.
