US to Withhold Judgment of Unity Government until Political Platform
WASHINGTON, March 15, 2007 (WAFA) -- The United States said on Thursday it would not make any judgment on whether to cooperate with the newly-formed Palestinian unity government until its political platform is revealed.
"We will wait until the government is actually in place and we have an understanding of what their platform will be before we make any final judgments about it," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
Casey said, however, the US Administration would continue to hold close contacts with President Mahmoud Abbas.
He said the political platform of the new government must fall in conformity with the Quartet groups conditions.
"Our position has been consistent, which is: You need a Palestinian government that is going to, in fact, abide by the Quartet conditions," he said.
