Russia Welcomes Formation of Unity Government
MOSCOW, March 15, 2007 (WAFA) -- Russia welcomed formation of a Palestinian national unity government, and urged the new cabinet to meet the Quartet's demands regarding resumption of talks with Israel, a Russian official said Thursday.
It is "a significant event on the path of uniting Palestinians," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Michail Kamynin described the cabinet formation, as he also hoped that this government would be a crucial factor in stabilizing the Palestinian territories and halting havoc and disorder there.
The Russian official said in a statement posted on the Russian ministry's internet site, that Moscow was wagering on the new government to expand cooperation with the international community, as its target should be the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, living peacefully beside a Jewish one.
