Solana Expresses Concern about Israeli Excavations in Al-Aqsa
RABAT, February 27, 2007, (WAFA) - EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, expressed Tuesday concern about the excavations undertaken by the Israeli occupation forces in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a letter sent to Dr. Abdulaziz Altwaijri, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Solana said "Pending the findings of such missions, I hope that all parties involved will exercise maximum restraint, in order to avoid further escalation."
ISESCO Director General had previously addressed urgent messages to the UN Secretary General, the EU High Representative for the CFSP, the Secretary General of the COE, the President of the European Commission, and UNESCO Director General, wherein he urged for an immediate action to halt the excavations conducted by the Israeli occupation forces in the precincts of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
