ISESCO Director Calls for Judicious Reaction to Israeli Excavations
RABAT, February 27, 2007, (WAFA) - ISESCO Director General, Dr. Abdulaziz Altwaijri, called on Tuesday for a wise and judicious reaction to the excavations being carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities around the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Addressing the opening of the emergency meeting of ISESCO Committee of Archaeological Experts, Altwaijri revealed that the archaeological landmarks in the city of Al-Quds Al-Sharif constitute inviolable holy sites for Muslims.
Altwaijri lauded the UNESCO's initiative of sending a delegation of experts to Al-Quds to examine the situation and prepare a report on the undergoing excavations, saying that the initiative is part of the International Organization's functions as it is responsible for the protection of the cultural and civilization landmarks and the preservation of historical monuments which constitute a common human heritage, while insisting on the implementation of the initiative.
He highlighted the continuing efforts exerted by ISESCO within the framework of its functions as specified by its Charter, in order to protect the sanctities and counter the Israeli repeated aggressions in this regard.
The Director General also pointed out that ISESCO's reaction to the diggings, demolition and destruction undertaken by the Israeli occupation authorities in the holy city reflects the concern of all Muslims and Arabs and is in line with the Organization's obligations vis-Ã -vis Palestine in general, and Al-Quds in particular.
