Al-Ahram: Fixing Mecca Agreement is Assertive Issue
CAIRO, February 26, 2007, (WAFA)-Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper said that fixing the Mecca agreement is an assertive issue as it would lead to establishing a national unity government that lifts the political and economic siege imposed on the Palestinian people.
In its editorial on Tuesday, the paper stressed on the importance of the Summit between President Mahmoud Abbas and President Husni Mubarak to fix the agreement reached between Fateh and Hamas.
Israel endeavors to foil Mecca agreement as, to Israel, will not fulfill its dreams, hence Israeli-American persistent is exerted so as the Palestinian government meet the Quartet's conditions, mainly to recognize Israel and denounce violence, the paper said.
It added that Egypt under the leadership of President Husni Mubarak has exerted utmost efforts to revive the peace process and this is clearly observed during President Mubarak and King Abdulla talks two days ago.
The paper concluded that President Mubarak's stance is firmed, he affirmed that there is no time for temporary solutions or unilateralism for the Palestinian cause, but it is time for reaching a comprehensive peace.
