Palestinian NGO Calls on Solana to Take Responsible Position in Supporting Abbas, New Government
GAZA, February 15, 2007 (WAFA) - Gaza Community Mental Health Programme called Thursday upon Mr. Javier Solana EU High Representative for Foreign Politics to take a constructive and responsible position in supporting the Palestinian President and the new unity government.
In a letter to Mr. Solana, the Programme highly appreciate his efforts and dedication for making peace in the Middle East, thanking the governments of the European Union for their support for peace, ending the Israeli occupation and helping Palestinians to establish and build their own free and sovereign state.
"Your contribution had a great impact on enhancing the political, economical, and health situation of Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories," reads the letter.
It added that there is no doubt that Hamas-led government has not met the important obligations for making peace, "but she was hardly given the chance of even a constructive engagement."
"The economic siege and the rapid deterioration of all aspects of life have contributed significantly to the recent serious state of factional violence which claimed tens of lives and threatened the community fabrics to its core," the letter reads on.
"For all that Palestinians every where with their friends and supporters of the just cause were happy for the conclusions of the Mecca meeting. We look forward with anticipation to the formation of the new government and restoration of law and order, and resumption of peace talks."
The programme said that it sincerely hopes that Solana's position will help the US to reach a wiser position and different from its current violent attitude towards peace, democracy and justice.
"Your "old" experience is called in today in such challenging moment of history."
