RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 4, 2020 (WAFA) – News about the victory of incumbent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the general election, and the Palestinian official reaction to the results of the election, hit the front-page headlines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds reported that Netanyahu claimed victory in Israel‘s general elections against main rival Benny Gantz with 59 seats for his Likud party and its right-wing allies.
The papers said that there‘s a possibility that Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will not grant any candidate a mandate to form the new Israeli government.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported a statement by Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, who said that ‘even though the Israeli election is an internal Israeli matter, its results will not come at the expense of the Palestinian people.‘
“The results of the Israeli election are an internal matter,” he said in a statement. “What matters for us is the preservation of our national and legitimate rights, first and foremost in Jerusalem and its holy places, and we will not allow anyone to liquidate our cause.”
The dailies said that Israeli bulldozers continued razing lands in areas in the villages of Qusra and Jurish, to the south of the northern occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Israeli authorities demolished the second floor of a Palestinian-owned house in the town of Hizma, to the northeast of occupied Jerusalem, under the pretext that it was built without an Israeli permission.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro emphasized his country‘s uned support for the Palestinian people and leadership.
