Land razed near Hebron to build sewage line to settlement

HEBRON, December 8, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities razed Palestinian land in the village of Umm al-Khair, south of Hebron, to build a sewage line for the nearby Jewish settlement of Carmiel, a local activist said on Thursday.

According to Rateb Jbour, coordinator of national and popular committees in the south Hebron area, military bulldozers razed agricultural land owned by the Hathalin and Awad families in order to place sewage pipes that serve the illegal settlement built on Umm al-Khair land.

Palestinians living in that area, also known as Masafer Yatta since it is part of the greater Yatta area, say Israel is trying to push them out of their homes and land, where they have lived since they were pushed out of their land in historic Palestine following the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, in order to take it over for settlement expansion.

While Palestinians are not allowed to build or have any kind of infrastructure in Masafer Yatta, Jewish settlements on the other hand get all the services and facilities to grow and expand.
