Israeli military drones burn protest encampments along Gaza’s eastern border

GAZA, June 8, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli military drones Friday morning dropped firebombs at the protest encampments along the eastern border of the besieged Gaza Strip, said WAFA correspondent.

Israeli military drones dropped firebombs on tents set up along Gaza’s eastern border and tires collected in preparation for Friday’s protests, burning dozens of tires and several tents and causing plumes of smoke to rise from the sites.

Firefighters rushed to the scenes to extinguish fire before it spread to more area and cause more damage. The attack caused property damages, but no injuries were reported.

The tires were collected by Palestinian activists to be burned on Friday’s protests, dubbed the “March of a Million to Jerusalem”, so that smoke would block the vision of Israeli snipers stationed along the border.

The Higher National Commission for the Great March of Return called for the largest participation of Palestinians in Friday’s protests coinciding with the Al-Quds Day, which falls on the last Friday of Ramadan, when many people observe a day of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Israeli snipers have killed 123 Palestinians, including 13 children, and injured over 13,600 others, including hundreds who suffered serious injuries, since March 30.

Among the slain Palestinians was Razan al-Najjar, 21, a paramedic who was shot in the chest and killed by an Israeli sniper while she was providing first aid to the wounded at the fortified border fence, east of Khan Younes.

Among them were also two journalists identified as Yasser Mortaja, 31, and Ahmad Abu Hussein, 25.
