RAMALLAH, Monday, June 10, 2019 (WAFA) – The Palestinian move to file a complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC) against US ambassador to Israel David Friedman hit the front page headlines in Monday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcing that it is considering filing a complaint against Friedman at the ICC.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported the Ministry condemning Friedman’s remarks and describing him as a “threat to regional peace and security”.
Friedman said that Israel has the right to annex at least parts of the occupied West Bank in an interview published by the New York Times on Saturday.
Responding to Friedman’s remarks, Secretary-General of Fatah Movement Jibril Rajoub was reported in al-Ayyam stating that that the Palestinian people faces “an unprecedented challenge” and has no other choice but to remain steadfast.
On the other hand, al-Quds spotlighted concerns over launching the US-brokered ‘Peace to Prosperity’ economic workshop scheduled on June 25-26 in Bahrain’s capital, Manama.
It said that Israel has not received an invitation to attend the workshop/ conference, and that the US is concerned about low participation of Arab countries in the workshop.
It also reported that the US preparations for the workshop are fragile and face difficulties.
Furthermore, al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted a DPA’s analysis titled Kushner’s Middle East peace plan unlikely and risky.
The dailies reported Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani’s remarks on his country’s position on the US blueprint, dubbed deal of the century, which is designed to force Palestinians into submission to perpetuate Israeli dominance.
Al-Thani was reported stating that: “We are going to support any plan that the Palestinians are willing to accept.”
Al-Quds said that Israeli forces conducted several raids across the southern West Bank district of Hebron, where settlers assaulted Palestinians.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborated that Israeli forces chased Palestinian children to detain them and stormed a store in Hebron.
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas commended the positions of Russia and China in support of Palestine and the Palestinian rights.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also highlighted Abbas’ participation in the graduation ceremony at the Friends Schools in Ramallah.
Al-Quds said that 353 Israeli settlers forced their way into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida added that so-called ‘Temple Mount organizations’ called for en masse settlers’ intrusions into the site today.
The dailies reported German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safad reiterating that their countries still agree that the two-state solution is the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
According to al-Quds, Israeli military committed 25 violations against Palestinian journalists in May 2019.
Al-Ayyam said that an Egyptian delegation is slated to arrive to Gaza within the few coming days to explore the possibility of launching an inclusive dialogue to achieve intra-Palestinian reconciliation.
Al-Ayyam published a feature paying tribute to 33-year-old Saber Murad, a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon who was shot in the head while trying to stop a gunman and suicide bomber in the northern city of Tripoli last week.
Finally, al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Palestinian observers attended polling stations in Kazakhstan.
