Weather forecast: Extremely hot, dry conditions, scorching temperature

 

RAMALLAH, Friday, May 24, 2019 (WAFA) – Extremely hot and dry conditions are expected to prevail on Friday in all districts with a slight rise of temperature which approaches 14°C above the seasonal average, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

PMD warns that extreme heat could be dangerous for outdoor activities. Cooler air is expected to penetrate the region in the afternoon, paving the way to relatively warm to warm conditions in the night. Wind is southeasterly and light to moderate with occasional gusts. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 39°C and a low of 23°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 38°C and a low of 22°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 45°C and a low of 27°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 39°C and a low of 25°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Saturday’s temperature is set to significantly drop and approach 5°C above the seasonal average, paving the way to a significant relief in the heat stress though remaining relatively warm in daytime and mainly pleasant in the nighttime.

Sunday’s temperature is set to remain steady with warm conditions in daytime and pleasant conditions in the evening and night time.

PMD expects Monday’s temperature to rise and approach 7°C above the seasonal average. Warm conditions are expected to prevail in mountainous districts and very warm conditions in the Jordan Valley in daytime, while pleasant conditions are expected in nighttime.

PMD warns people against direct exposure to sunlight for long period, particularly from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and setting fire to dry leaves and grass.
